Cornstarch will help as an anti-inflammatory ingredient. All you have to do is, add 3 TSP of corn starch/baking soda in the tub while giving a bath to your baby. This will help in reducing the irritation and the burning sensation.

Vinegar can help in killing the germs and bacteria that caused the rashes. Take one TSP of vinegar and mix it one bowl of warm water and clean the affected skin with a clean cloth or cotton.

Yoghurt or curd can be applied to the rash area with cotton. Dab the cotton softly on diaper area and let it dry for 5 minutes. After that clean the yoghurt with a cotton swab and let your baby’s skin dry up.

Calendula, an extract of marigold that helps the skin to heal. The best form of the flower to heal a diaper rash is a water-based cream. It’s also anti-microbial, which means it fights organism growth, and its anti-inflammatory, which helps in alleviating discomfort.

  • Keep your baby’s diaper area/skin clean and let it expose to air for some time.
  • It is recommended to replace the diaper as soon as you find it got wet.
  • Whenever you change the baby’s diaper, clean the area under the diaper with warm water and let it dry completely, make sure your hands are clean and sanitised.
  • Use soft washcloths or cotton rather than commercial diaper wipes.
  • Say bye-bye to talcum powder as it may be harmful to your baby’s lungs since s/he can inhale it which, in turn, could lead to allergy on the skin and irritation in the nose.
  • One of the reasons of diaper rash may be that the products from the market you are using for your baby might not be suitable for him/her.
  • Even diapers of a particular brand could be allergic on the skin causing rashes around the diaper area. So replace such products with skin-friendly ones.

  • Don’t use scented/perfumed diaper wipes.
  • Say a big ‘NO’ to plastic pants as they will only worsen the condition of the diaper rash.
  • Avoid over tight diapers; your babies hate those. Plastic pants, tight-fitting diapers do not allow the air to let in and create moist environment eventually causing nasty rashes. They also create friction between skin and diaper resulting in redness and blisters.
  • Do not use fabric softener or fragrance containing detergents to wash cloth diapers, instead wash them with vinegar or baking soda added to water.

What Causes A Diaper Rash?

1.Stool and Urine:

Prolonged exposure to urine or stool can cause diaper rashes to develop on your baby’s skin. The skin of infants is very sensitive and delicate.

Hence, you have to take extra care that they are not exposed to something that is wet like urine.

2.New Product:

If you have been tempted by some new advertisement about a new baby product and immediately buy it for your baby, you must beware that it doesn’t harm your baby’s skin.

A new baby soap or talc might cause rashes on your infant’s skin if it doesn’t suit him/her.

Diarrhoea sometimes accompanies teething, which may lead to loosening of their bowels and eventually babies are prone to rashes on their skin.

4.Wearing Diaper All Day:

If you’re doing this to your baby, then I am sorry to say this is a blunder. Leaving your baby with a diaper on for the whole day is one of the major reasons that cause diaper rash. I would suggest avoiding diapers as much as you can.

The fabric, out of which a diaper is made, may not be soft enough to please your baby’s skin and eventually such fabric will cause diaper rash on your baby’s skin.

Some diapers have a plastic kind of fabric, and those are the devils that cause rashes.

Symptoms of Diaper Rash:

  1. Irritation
  2. Redness
  3. Tender skin
  4. Blisters
  5. Ulcers
  6. Disposition and Crying
It is very painful to see an infant having diaper rash and even if you want to cure it, your baby will cry as soon as the rash is touched or cleaned.

Be very careful and keep your hands sanitised, else the rashes of your baby can worsen.

Pro Tip:

Now I am sharing those two magic tricks which you can follow if the rash worsens.
The first home remedy is:
  • Apply Honey to the affected area. Yes, honey has a lot of goodness in it, and one of those benefits is that it helps in healing all kinds of skin problems.
  • All you got to do is, take pure honey in a spoon and apply it to your baby’s skin and later on, clean the honey with some water to avoid stickiness. Please do not use the commercial baby wipes to clean your baby’s diaper area.
The second home remedy you may follow is:
  •  Take 3 TSP of coconut oil and add camphor to it. You’ll have to crush the camphor(Kapur) and mix it in the oil until it dissolves completely.
  • Apply this mixture to your infant’s skin with an earbud. You’ll have to be very careful while doing this and do not let a single drop touch your baby’s genitals. Be super cautious about this. I repeat, Super Cautious!!!!!
  • Camphor, when mixed with coconut oil, acts as a coolant and will soothe down the redness and burn sensation on the affected skin.I’m pretty sure the 15points I mentioned previously will help but if they don’t, you can try out these two remedies as well.
  • Feel free to consult your baby’s doctor, if at all you’re hesitant to try out these home remedies.
I hope you’re getting the answers to all of your questions. Don’t panic! Diaper rash is normal. You just need to put in that extra care for your baby to recover quickly from those nasty rashes.

Plus below I’ll be mentioning a few precautions that you must take as a mother to prevent diaper rash.

I hope you love this phase of your motherhood when your child is a baby and all you want to do is cuddle him/her. Being a mother, it is your duty to follow those particular precautions to prevent diaper rash.
  • Keep your hands sanitized and clean.
  • Trim your nails and avoid nail polishes.
  • Let your baby breathe in air for as many hours as possible. Keep him/her diaper-free.
  • Avoid commercial baby products or wipes when he/she has a diaper rash.
  • Avoid plastic pants.
  • Choose the right diaper for your infant.
  • If you have a babysitter, who changes your baby’s diaper, I would suggest avoid this and do it on your own.
  • Ask the babysitter to keep themselves clean and tidy, especially their hands.
  • Don’t let your baby wear a wet diaper for even 5 minutes, change it immediately.
  • Use cotton pants and cloth to clean your baby’s diaper area.
