Sensex Closes 181 Points Higher, Nifty Ends At 10,727
Breaking two-day losing streak, domestic stock markets ended Friday's session on a positive note. The 30-scrip Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) benchmark index closed at 35,695.10, up 181.39 points or 0.51 per cent, from the previous close, and the Nifty50 index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) surged 55.10 points or 0.52 per cent to settle at 10,727.35. Gains on Dalal Street were led by banking and financial stocks, offsetting losses in IT stocks.

The S&P BSE Sensex rose as much as 230.49 points during the session to touch 35,744.20 at the day's highest point, while the Nifty50 climbed 68.8 points to register an intraday high of 10,741.05.
Thirty five out of the 50 stocks on the Nifty finished the session higher. Prominent gainers on the index included Infratel, Vedanta, Yes Bank, Tata Motors and Bharti Airtel.
Yes Bank, Vedanta, Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel, SBI and Tata Steel led the advances on Sensex.
Investors were, however, cautious ahead of the corporate results season which is set to kick off next week. This limited the gains on the indices. Top software services exporters Tata Consultancy Services Ltd and Infosys Ltd are scheduled to report their results for the December-quarter on January 10 and 11, respectively.
Foreign institutional and portfolio investors had offloaded equities worth a net $171 million this week as of Thursday.
